Cut a 18 to 20 foot length of .095 or .080 diameter trimmer line. Align the arrow on the bottom of the bump knob with the line holes on the spool housing.

Insert one end of the trimmer line into one of the holes on the spool housing, and push it through the Grass Gator head.

Pull the line through the head so that there is an equal amount line on each side of the Grass Gator.

Push down on the bump knob and wind the trimmer line into the head with the knob.

Wind the line into the spool until about 6-8 inches are left showing on each side of the trimmer head.
