Before you begin, remove the spool cover, spool, and spring from the Grass Gator head, and keep the housing handy.

The first thing you need to do is remove the spool cover and the spool from your original spool housing - the same procedure you use for replacing your trimmer line. The original spool housing stays on the trimmer.

Next, slide the black spacer cup from the Grass Gator kit onto your shaft - open side towards to trimmer and the closed side towards the ground - and sit it inside your original spool housing. It will take the place of the original spool that you removed and give the Grass Gator a platform to sit on. Take the large flat washer from the kit, slide it over the shaft and let it sit on top of the spacer cup.

Locate the proper adapter in the kit for your particular trimmer, and install it into the Grass Gator head.

Next, locate the nut or bolt in the Grass Gator kit that fits the shaft on your trimmer and place it inside the hexagon recess area in the adapter that you just installed in the Grass Gator.

Pick up the Grass Gator head with the adapter and the nut or bolt installed and slide it onto the top of the spacer cup - lining the nut or bolt up with the shaft - and screw the Grass Gator onto your trimmer using the Grass Gator as a wrench. The head of the nut or bolt will be facing the ground. There should be no play on the shaft when properly installed.

Congratulations! Your Grass Gator is now properly installed and ready to use.
