The following instructions and recommendations are based on the data gathered through our 15+ years in the market. We do our best to list most brands and as many models as possible. We also try to make sure the information provided is accurate but please note, manufacturers can make running changes that we are not aware of until reported by a customer. We do our best to list those exceptions but keep in mind this is just a guide and the best way to troubleshoot an installation is to interact with a Technical Support Specialist either over the phone or via e-mail.
Stihls are great, powerful trimmers but they are all very different. Some require a special nut, washer or adapter kit.
We fit most models that come with a Bump & Feed head.
We recommend the following heads for either the straight or curved shaft models : 3600, 4600, 4620, 4680, 3630, 7800, 4750, 5600, 5620 or 8010.
Most Stihls follow the straight shaft instructions even if the model is a curved shaft.
- Models FS-38, FS-45 and FS-46 requires a special adapter kit (see details here) that you can request by by e-mail.
- Models FS-110R, FS-55, FS-55RC, FS-56RC,FS-70, FS-75 have splines before the threads. If the GrassGator head hits the splines before the nut can engange the threads (shaft too short), you can enlarge the hole on the GrassGator head with a 1/2" drill bit to make it go over the splines. If the shaft is long enough but the splines are exposed, you can request a free spacer by e-mail to cover them up.
- Most FS-36 and some FS-40, FS-410AVE, FS-72, FS-75, FS-90R require a 12mm nut that is not included in the kit. If the hole on the GrassGator head is not big enough to go over the exposed shaft and none of the nuts in the kit fit, you can enlarge the hole on the GrassGator head with a 1/2" drill bit and request a 12mm by e-mail. Make sure you include the model number as some models require a 12mm left hand threaded nut while some others require a right hand instead.
